'We Want You'

For this assignment we were required to design a poster that acts as an advertisement for an original icon representing a brand or product of our own creation.

A friend of mine has a clothing company called Assailant Clothing [link] where the designs are centered on different types of armaments. We had talked about me drawing some designs for him before, so when we were assigned to make a poster for an original design, his company was the first thing I thought of.

I had to think, what would go with the whole armory theme? Almost immediately the "We Want You" poster popped into my head, and if I changed the "We Want You" into the Assailant slogan, "We Will Not Go Quietly," it'd work perfect!

I used all sorts of medium on this project. Uncle Sam was sketched out in graphite and colored entirely in pastels, to give it that warm, kind of older feel to it. The border and text were first blocked out in markers and refined with colored pencil. If you go over the markers more than once, parts will get darker than the areas you only made one pass on, so the colored pencil was to blend in these lighter and darker parts, but I didn't gave to color the entire thing either.
